Video: Prosper plans for $48 million stadiumFacility will seat 12,000 for football and expected to be open by 2019.
The Prosper Independent School District has announced plans to open the next high school football super stadium in Texas.
The
Dallas Morning News detailed the project earlier this week following a
Prosper ISD press release. It will seat 12,000 fans for football and include a swimming facility and meeting space.
According to the press release, the stadium will cost $48 million coming out of a $710 million bond passed nearly a decade ago. Plans to break ground have been slowed by the economy but it's full steam ahead now in the suburban Dallas community with August 2019 targeted as the open date.
Prosper won a state title in 2008 at the 3A level and has been one of the fastest-growing schools in the state. The Eagles are expected to move to 6A by 2019. The stadium will also serve a second high school in the area, which is projected to open in 2020.
Texas is no stranger to prep pigskin palaces. Nearby
Allen opened a $60 million, 20,000-seat stadium in 2012 and the
McKinney ISD also has a major project in the works.
Prosper's stadium will be paid for by a $710 million bond passed nearly a decade ago.
