Types of Braces

Wildflower Dental & Orthodontics offers two different types of orthodontic work: traditional braces and ClearCorrect™ aligners. While both types of braces have the same goals, there are several differences between the treatment options that may make one more appropriate for some smiles.

Both traditional braces and ClearCorrect™ aligners treat the following orthodontic issues:

  • Crowding
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Spacing

Traditional braces and ClearCorrect™ aligners both gradually move your teeth into the right positions but they do so differently. Traditional braces are made of metal brackets that attach to the teeth and then attach to each other with wires, thereby gently tugging your teeth into the desired position. ClearCorrect™, unsurprisingly, is totally clear and nearly invisible. ClearCorrect™ braces are a series of custom-made clear trays, which slowly shift your teeth in place.

Traditional Braces

Traditional metal braces are sleeker, more comfortable, and more effective than they ever have been before. The wires, rubber bands, and brackets are able to treat more complex cases, moving teeth far and realigning them to generate a straight smile. In more severe cases where ClearCorrect™ is an option, traditional braces often can do the job in a shorter timeframe.

While wearing braces, you should avoid some foods and drinks (like popcorn and sugary sports drinks and sodas), because they can get struck behind wires and even worse, because they can promote tooth decay. Ask Dr. Walkington to give you a complete list at your orthodontic checkup!

ClearCorrect™

With ClearCorrect™ aligners, there is no restrictions to the types of foods you can eat or drink, nor is there any interruption to your brushing and flossing routine, because although you should wear them for 22 hours a day, ClearCorrect™ aligners can be removed.

Because ClearCorrect™ aligners are made in advance, your orthodontic visits will be shorter than they would be with traditional braces. It’s still important to come to your regular checkups so that Dr. Walkington can keep track of your progress.

Wildflower Dental & Orthodontics offers free orthodontic consultations with Dr. Walkington.
