The last two movies I saw were Magic Mike XXL and The Invitation. The former is a tale of male strippers, friendship, and the danceability of “Pony,” while the latter is a terrifying, suspense-driven look at a (fictional) Los Angeles cult.

Where am I going with this? I have no idea, but Jake usually writes about the most recent movies he’s seen in this intro. I guess what these movies say about modern cinema is that there really are a lot of options if you ignore superhero movies.

In that spirit, here are eight non-superhero trailers from the week below.

Mutafukaz

Mutafukaz is the feature-length companion to a French short and comic book series. It follows a teen pizza delivery boy, Angelino, around the streets of the fictional Dark Meat City or DMC, as things get darker and weirder. Mutafukaz was created and directed by Guillaume Renard and Shoujirou Nishimi, and it’s set for a 2018 release date.

Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later

The camp counselors are back, except this time they’re not teens anymore! (Not that they ever really were.) It’s 1991 and our favorite freaks are touring the old campgrounds once again, trying (maybe) to save the camp from being sold.

The season is dropping on Netflix on August 4th.

Game of Thrones, Season 7

In case you didn’t already know: winter is here, and it’s just going to keep getting colder.

GoT season 7 premieres on July 16th.

To The Bone

To The Bone is Netflix’s latest original movie, about a young woman named Ellen (played by Lily Collins) struggling with anorexia. Ellen goes to a recovery program where she meets a group of young people also battling eating disorders who rally around their eccentric doctor (Keanu Reeves).

It’s on Netflix on July 14th.

Stronger

Jake Gyllenhaal plays Jeff Bauman, a man who lost both his legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The movie is based off of Bauman’s memoir of the same name, which chronicles his life and relationships after the bombing.

It’s out September 22nd.

American Assassin

American Assassin stars Dylan O'Brien as Mitch Rapp, a CIA black ops recruit obsessed with seeking revenge for his girlfriend’s murder. Eventually, Rapp is given the task of preventing a nuclear apocalypse. Sounds thrilling!

It’s out in September.

Annabelle Creation

Every horror movie trope ever imagined comes together in Annabelle Creation: an orphan, an evil doll, the Devil, eerie wooden crosses, an old farmhouse, and a well. Show me a horror movie without a well in it, I dare you!

It’s out August 11th.

The Incredible Jessica James

Jessica Williams plays an aspiring playwright in a new Netflix series set in New York. She goes on Tinder dates, shames subway man-spreaders, and works a job feeding rich people tiny foods at a catering company. Looks like the kind of chill, quirky comedy Netflix does best.

The series lands on Netflix on July 28th.
