Crews from Birkenhead and Wallasey fire stations attended the incident, together with the service's search and rescue team and Marine Fire One Rescue Boat, on Tuesday night.

They used a rescue sled to rescue the woman, who was assessed at the scene by paramedics but did not require further treatment.

Police, New Brighton Lifeboat crew and North West Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

The lady was assessed at the scene by paramedics but did not require further treatment.

Watch manager Gareth Evans said: "The team rescued a woman who was stuck in mud just metres from the incoming tide.

"Crews from Wallasey Community and Birkenhead assisted the Marine Rescue Team who deployed a rescue sled and freed the female.

"She was then led to safety with no apparent injuries, where she was assessed by NWAS before leaving the scene with no further need for treatment".
