DEVIZES captain Tom Grant was delighted with his side after they managed to record a surprise two-wicket win at home to Swindon.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first and dismissed the then WEPL Wiltshire league leaders for 111.

Before the game, Grant wasn’t expecting much from his side as they had seven players unavailable, so was pleasantly surprised with the performance.

“It was a very good win for us. We had a lot of players unavailable so obviously I wasn’t that optimistic before the game, especially after we got rolled by Trowbridge,” he said.

“We stuck to our lines and managed to get them all out for 111 which was brilliant really. Our bowling is normally our strong point.

“A couple of times we have had teams six down for not many but we haven’t managed to get the last couple of wickets so they have got good totals.

“So to get a couple out quickly and then roll through them for a low score was good.”

Skipper Grant and Harry Easton picked up four wickets each, while Ben McGowan claimed the other two.

Following a summer of recruitment, where the club brought in seven first-team players, Grant thinks the club are now reaping the rewards with three wins out of five so far this season.

“Apart from the Trowbridge game, I’m very happy with our start to the season, especially after a poor one last year,” he said.

“It makes such a difference to confidence. Last year we went three or four games without a win and it knocked everyone.”

Stuart Windsor’s Calne defeated hosts Great Bedwyn by seven wickets after bowling them out for 183.

Royal Wootton Bassett failed to build on their victory over Marlborough as they suffered a home defeat to Trowbridge.

The visitors posted 240-8 and Bassett never got close as they were were dismissed for 203 despite Jared McDonald’s 85.

Marlborough were also unable to claim a win as they lost to Purton by 25 runs after failing to reach the target of 137 as they were dispatched for 112.

Marshfield were unable to defend a rain-reduced target against Warminster, who won by five wickets with a tally of 166-5.
