Upsets of top-ranked teams continues to be the norm during the postseason as four teams ranked in the top 10 suffered defeat and saw their seasons come to an end.
Huntington Beach was the top team to be eliminated when it lost to El Dorado (Placentia, Calif.) in the Southern Section Division I playoffs. The Oilers were ranked No. 3 and had been ranked as high as No. 2 during the season.
Former No. 1 Buchanan also lost, falling to rival Clovis in the Central Section Division I finals. Meanwhile Rancho Bernardo lost twice in the San Diego Section Open Division playoffs. Buchanan and Rancho Bernardo were ranked Nos. 6 and 7, respectively.
Meanwhile in Florida, No. 9 West Orange lost to University (Orange City) in the Class 9A quarterfinals.
The big matchup this week finds No. 2 Archbishop McCarthy taking on Mosley in the Florida Class 6A state semifinals.

2. (2) Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 27-2The Mavericks blanked Eau Gallie 3-0 in the Florida Class 6A state regional finals for their third straight win by shutout.
Adan Fernandez went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI on offense, while
Daniel Federman struck out 11 and went the distance to get the win. Archbishop McCarthy faces Mosley in the state semifinals this week.
3. (5) Mosley (Lynn Haven, Fla.), 26-2The Dolphins shut out Clay 3-0 to advance to the Class 6A state semifinals against defending state champion Archbishop McCarthy.
Geoffrey Lancaster hit a home run in the win and
Nicky Agosto went four innings with five strikeouts to get the victory.
4. (6) Riverdale Baptist (Upper Marlboro, Md.), 30-1Season over.
5. (15) Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.), 30-0The Warriors won the first state baseball championship in school history with an 11-1 win over Pensacola Catholic in the Class 4A state championship game. Calvary Christian never trailed after scoring six runs in the first inning.
Christian Cairo went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the win. The undefeated Warriors also downed American Heritage (Delray Beach) 7-1 in the semifinals.
6. (4) Moody (Corpus Christi, Texas), 28-2-3Moody got a scare as it lost its first game to Tivy (Kerrville) 2-0, but bounced back to win the next two, 3-2 and 8-2, to advance to the Class 5A Region 4 finals against Ray (Corpus Christi).
7. (10) Helena (Ala.), 38-6Alabama Class 6A state champion. Season over.
8. (11) Pope (Marietta, Ga.), 32-6Pope's Class AAAAAA state championship series does not begin until Monday after Johns Creek protested a loss to Lee County in the semifinals and had the appeal upheld. Lee County had to play a third game against Johns Creek, which it won, postponing the state finals until Memorial Day.
9. (12) Fort Bend Travis (Richmond, Texas), 31-6Fort Bend Travis advanced to the Class 6A Region 3 finals with a pair of wins — 7-2, 15-3 — over North Shore (Houston). Fort Bend Travis takes on Deer Park for the right to advance to the Class 6A state tournament.
10. (13) Colleyville Heritage (Colleyville, Texas), 37-4-1Colleyville Heritage advanced to the Class 5A Region 1 championship series where it will face district rival Grapevine. Colleyville Heritage advanced with a 7-3, 11-3 sweep of Canyon Randall.
11. (14) Jackson (Massillon, Ohio), 28-2The Polar Bears lost a regular-season finale to Berlin Hiland 2-1, but opened the regional playoffs with a pair of convincing wins. Jackson beat Walsh Jesuit 6-0 in the regional semifinal and then topped Mentor 9-2 in the regional final. Jackson takes on Lakota West in the state semifinals on Friday.
12. (16) La Cueva (Albuquerque), 28-1New Mexico Class 6A state champion. Season over.
13. (17) Jefferson City (Mo.), 29-2The Jays advanced to the Class 5 state semifinals with a pair of playoff wins. They got past Willard 6-3 and knocked off Kickapoo 8-2. Jefferson City takes on Lee's Summit in Friday's semifinals.
14. (18) Neuqua Valley (Naperville, Ill.), 33-1-1Neuqua Valley opened the playoffs with two wins, beating Metea Valley 7-0 and Minooka 5-4.
James Kulak threw a no-hitter against Metea Valley, striking out six.
Ryan Wheeler had a home run against Minooka.
15. (19) Saline (Mich.), 30-3Saline dropped its second game in five days last week with a 2-0 loss to Northville. Saline also defeated Northville earlier in the day 3-0. Saline is scheduled to play Chelsea on Tuesday before beginning district play.
16. (21) Wakeland (Frisco, Texas), 34-4-1Wakeland needed three games, but advanced to the Class 5A Region 2 championship series with a 4-3, 6-7, 10-0 win over Cleburne. Wakeland takes on Mansfield Legacy.
17. (23) Westminster Christian (St. Louis), 33-1Westminster Christian reached the Missouri Class 5 state semifinals with a 7-1 first-round win over Clayton and a 14-4 second-round win over Winfield. Westminster Christian takes on Lutheran South in Thursday's semifinals.
18. (24) Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.), 31-5South Carolina Class 5A state champion. Season over.
19. (25) Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.), 27-1NCISAA Class 3A state champion. Season over.
20. (26) Canterbury (Fort Myers, Fla.), 27-5Canterbury captured the Class 3A state title for the second straight year with a 4-1 win over University Christian.
Cooper Swanson threw a two-hitter for the win, striking out five. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate. In the semifinals, Canterbury knocked off Bishop McLaughlin 7-4.
21. (27) T.C. Roberson (Asheville, N.C.), 29-3
The Rams reached the Class 4A finals by sweeping Lake Norman in the semifinals, 11-0 and 3-1. The Rams face New Hanover in the championship series this weekend.
22. (28) Cathedral (Indianapolis), 23-0The Fighting Irish remained undefeated with a 2-1 win over Mt. Vernon in a sectional first round game. Cathedral takes on Lawrence Central today.
23. (29) O'Fallon (Ill.), 32-5O'Fallon lost its final non-league game of the season to Sacred Heart-Griffin 3-1, but won its first two playoff games 11-2 against Collinsville and 10-3 versus Belleville East.
24. (31) St. Laurence (Burbank, Ill.), 32-5St. Laurence won three times last week, including a pair of postseason wins. It knocked off Illiana Christian 2-1 in a non-league game, and beat Oak Lawns 10-0 and Riverside-Brookfield 3-2 in the playoffs.
25. (32) Carmel (Ind.), 22-2Carmel opened the postseason with a 9-3 win over North Central (Indianapolis) in a first-round sectional game. The Greyhounds meet Noblesville in the second round Monday.

26. (33) New Hanover (Wilmington, N.C.), 23-3New Hanover advanced to the North Carolina Class 4A state championship game by knocking off Holly Springs, 2-0 and 1-0. New Hanover meets T.C. Roberson for the championship.
27. (NR) Puyallup (Wash.), 25-2Puyallup captured the Class 4A state championship with a 3-2 win over Kentlake.
28. (NR) Clovis (Calif.), 25-7-1The Cougars outdueled rival Buchanan 2-1 for the Central Section Division I championship.
29. (8) Buchanan (Clovis, Calif.), 28-4The Bears missed out on a chance to repeat as Central Section Division I champions after falling to Clovis 2-1 in the championship game. Buchanan defeated Clovis West 3-2 to reach the finals.
30. (NR) El Dorado (Placentia, Calif.), 21-8-1El Dorado had an outstanding run in the Southern Section Division I playoffs, knocking off West Ranch 3-1, Dana Hills 6-0 and finally previous national No. 3 Huntington Beach 4-1 in the quarterfinals. El Dorado faces Corona in the semifinals.
31. (3) Huntington Beach (Calif.), 28-5The Oilers saw their season end with a 4-1 loss to El Dorado (Placentia) in the third round of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. Huntington Beach defeated Servite (Anaheim) 3-0 in the second round.
32. (NR) Madison (San Diego), 20-10Madison opened the postseason by knocking off two of the top teams in the San Diego Section Open Division. First Madison beat Eastlake (Chula Vista) 2-1 and then beat Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) 8-4. Madison has to beat Eastlake again to advance to the championship game.
33. (35) Eastlake (Chula Vista, Calif.), 29-4
The Titans lost to Madison (San Diego) 2-1 in nine innings in the first round of the San Diego Section Open Division playoffs, but bounced back to beat La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad) 3-1 and Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) 7-6.
34. (7) Rancho Bernardo (San Diego), 29-5
The Broncos opened the San Diego Section Open Division playoffs with a 4-2 win over La Costa Canyon, but fell to Madison (San Diego) 8-4 in the second round and were eliminated by Eastlake 7-6.
35. (NR) University (Orange City, Fla.), 24-6The Titans knocked off West Orange 2-0 to advance to the semifinals of the Florida Class 9A state playoffs.
