HUNTERS POINT — A "postage stamp-sized" playground for toddlers near the Long Island City waterfront that's been closed for the last several years reopened this week following a $320,000 overhaul, officials announced.

The "Tot Lot" playground at the corner of 48th Avenue and 5th Street, which is part of nearby Gantry Plaza State Park, was shuttered four years ago because its previous equipment was in disrepair, according to the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

The tiny play space reopened Monday after a $320,000 renovation, and was designed for kids ages 3 to 5, officials said. The all-new equipment includes climbing structures, a tunnel slide and problem-solving puzzle features.

The playground overhaul is the last portion of a larger project to upgrade all of the recreational facilities along 48th Avenue. The adjacent basketball and handball courts were fully renovated last summer.

It was paid for with funding from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's New York Parks 2020 Plan, which is investing $900 million to renovate parks across the state.
