NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF BARRIE

*************************
The City of Barrie’s new Renovation Grant is accepting applications until June 19, 2017.

Property owners in the Urban Growth Centre or of buildings listed on the Municipal Heritage Register can apply for part of the approximately $200,000 total grant amount (up to $25,000 per grant) for renovation and restoration of existing buildings.

The Renovation Grant, as part of the Built Boundary Community Improvement Plan (CIP), was created to encourage the improvement, restoration and/or adaptive re-use of existing buildings in downtown Barrie and to assist with the restoration of heritage characteristics of Barrie’s historic properties.

“Barrie’s current built areas provide an opportunity for our city to prepare for the coming population growth,” explains Kathy Brislin, senior policy planner. “Improving vacant commercial units or converting them to residential space will support job creation and more affordable housing options in our downtown core, while maintaining its character.”

The Renovation Grant application deadline is June 19, 2017. For more information on the renovation grant and other incentives, including application criteria and forms, please visit Financial Incentives via barrie.ca/Planning.
