EDMONDS — Seventeen student-athletes were honored Wednesday at the Edmonds School District Scholar-Athlete and Coach/Community Recognition Banquet at Edmonds-Woodway High School.
The student-athletes received scholarships from various organizations.
“Their definition of success is not dependent upon wins and losses,” said event host Al Rasmussen. “For many of them it is about building relationships and learning life lessons, as well as improving as individuals and helping their teams reach their highest level. They have provided inspiration and leadership for their peers and their teammates. They are contributing agents toward their schools and the communities in which they live.”
Edmonds-Woodway’s Kendra Cooper received the biggest prize of the night, a $3,500 scholarship sponsored by the Maggie King Memorial Scholarship. Cooper has played key roles on the Warriors’ volleyball, girls basketball and softball teams during the past several years. She plans to attend Washington State University to pursue a degree in athletic training and pre-medicine.
Coaches and community members from the district’s four high schools also received recognition, as did Scott Williams, who was given the Director’s Award.
