Waltham High School Earns State Accreditation

The New England Association of Schools and College highlighted WHS' educational and career development opportunities and diverse population.

WALTHAM, MA – Waltham High School has been awarded full accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and College's (NEASC) Committee on Public Secondary Schools. The committee highlighted the school's educational and career development opportunities, as well as its diverse population of students and faculty.

"I'm pleased that NEASC has voted continued accreditation for Waltham High School as it recognizes both the quality of our programs and the dedication of our educators," WHS Principal Gregory DeMeo said in a statement. "The Self Study process provided us with an excellent opportunity to reflect on what we do well and to identify those areas where improvement is needed. I appreciate NEASC's many commendations and I look forward to thoughtfully addressing any areas of need as we continue through the ongoing accreditation cycle."

In order to improve WHS' standing, the NEASC suggested addressing school facility issues that may impact learning for students, developing formal school-wide and individual progress assessments and ensuring course options reflect the diverse population of the school.

"We have much work ahead of us to achieve the goals of excellence and equity for all students," Superintendent Drew Echelson said in a statement. "Nevertheless, the findings from the NEASC committee confirm what we already know: we operate from a position of strength. Our students, faculty and staff are amazing and will be huge assets in our work as we implement the principles of our education plan."
