OLYMPIA — The Kamiak boys soccer team generated continuous chances against Olympia in a 4A state tournament first-round match on Tuesday at Ingersoll Stadium, and capitalized on those opportunities in a 4-0 win over the Bears.
Soren Pehlivanian, Andre’ Hamilton and Jason Kim all scored in the first half for the Knights (13-5-2) and Noah Venditto tacked on an insurance goal late in the second half.
Olympia (7-11-2) was a longshot to get to this point, but beat Camas in a penalty shootout on Saturday to set up the matchup with Kamiak.
“We didn’t have much of an idea of what Olympia would do, but we knew how hot they’ve been lately. We just executed our game plan and moved the ball around very well,” Kamiak coach Kosta Pitharoulis said.
The Knights will host the winner of Wednesday’s night’s first-round matchup between Bothell and Todd Beamer in a quarterfinal match at Goddard Stadium on Friday evening.
Mercer Island 5, Shorecrest 0
MERCER ISLAND — The Scots faced a three-goal deficit at halftime against the defending state runners-up and couldn’t recover in a 3A state tournament first-round loss Tuesday.
Shorecrest ends its season with a record of 9-8-4.
Mountlake Terrace 7, Tyee 1
BURIEN — With three starters — including its standout goalkeeper — ruled ineligible for disciplinary reasons before their 2A state tournament opener, the Hawks turned adversity into triumph with a resounding win over the Totems Tuesday night at Highline Memorial Stadium.
Bobby Stoyanov scored four goals and dished out two assists, and emergency goalkeeper Cody Nickell — typically the team’s right back — kept a clean sheet until the closing minutes.
“It’s our first state win in 25 years, and it’s remarkable given what we were up against,” Mountlake Terrace coach George Dremousis said. “We played a style that I don’t like to teach, but we had to do the best we could with what we had.”
Typically a possession-based team, Mountlake Terrace instead tried to keep the ball in the Totems’ half as much as possible, using long balls over the top to ease the pressure on Nickell, who had only played between the sticks once in his young career.
“He was just our best athlete,” Dremousis said.
Max Jackson added a pair of goals for the Hawks (15-6), who will face Highline in a quarterfinal clash.
Cedarcrest 2, Aberdeen 0
ABERDEEN — Alden Massey and Caleb Chung each scored unassisted goals to lead the Red Wolves (18-3-1) to a first-round win in the 2A state tournament Tuesday at Stewart Field.
Cedarcrest will play Lindbergh in the quarterfinals.

SHORELINE — The Knights conceded goals off a pair of corner kicks in the first six minutes of action in a 1A state tournament first-round match Tuesday.
“We came out a little flat, but the two goals woke us up,” King’s coach Sam Hartman said. “If we would have come out a little bit stronger we could have beaten that team, or at least made it more competitive.”
The Knights end their season with a record of 12-6-2.
