For the third day in a row, Woodland police responded to a call of “shots fired.”

Fortunately, in the latest incident no one was injured unlike an earlier case where a Woodland man was struck.

In the latest case, Woodland police responded at 3:55 a.m., Saturday to North Ashley Avenue near Riverside Drive after several people reported hearing gunfire.

Sgt. Ted Ruiz reported that one person saw a newer mode blue sedan parked the wrong way near the intersection of Ashley Avenue and Riverside Drive.

“Immediately after the gunfire, the blue sedan drove away northbound on Ashley Avenue,” stated Ruiz. “Officers went to the location where the blue sedan was parked and recovered nine handgun shell casings in the immediate area.”

Patrol officers conducted a neighborhood canvass as part of the investigation, but no additional witnesses were located and no additional evidence was found.

“At this time no victims have been located and it does not appear that any residences or vehicles were stuck by gunfire,” Ruiz said, noting that an investigation is continuing.

An earlier shooting at 10:30 p.m., Thursday, police responded to Donnelly Circle at which Jose Jimenez Pineda, 29, was struck by a bullet and a received non-life threatening wound to the upper body.

“Jimenez gave varying accounts of what happened,” Ruiz reported earlier, “but eventually told investigators he was struck by gunfire while in the area of Donnelly Circle. After being struck by gunfire, Jimenez was transported to the hospital by an acquaintance. Jimenez did not provide investigators with suspect information and was transported to a Sacramento area hospital for additional treatment.”

Ruiz stated that investigators from the Yolo County Gang Taskforce and the Woodland Police Department Investigations Division responded to assist with the investigation.

Around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, another “shots fired” call was received in front of the apartments at 338 North St. That was where officers found three 9-millimeter casings near a sidewalk.

Cpl. Jeff Moe also reported that police found a cellphone and prescription bottle containing marijuana in the grass near the area of the shooting.

Police were told of a person seen getting inside an older, light-colored (possibly brown) Cutlass and leaving the area immediately after the shooting, but it was not reported whether the vehicle and its occupants were connected to the event.

No victims or bullet holes were located.
