The Top 4 Tips to Help You with Packing and Moving

Moving to a new home can seem like a headache that lasts for months. From the mess that will surround your everyday life, to trying to keep track of all the things going from A to B, it’s hard to keep up with everything. All of this simply triples if you are working full time, taking care of small children or doing anything else important on the side. Not to worry, with a few simple tips, you can transform your move from a hurricane into smooth sailing.

Plan ahead

You certainly know what your new place looks like, and maybe you have regular access to it as well. Utilise that to the maximum: measure the storage space, take pictures and make notes. Make sure to do this before you start packing any of your things. Then, designate a place in your new home for everything you own, and if there is an item that doesn’t have its place, then it’s time to say goodbye to it. Otherwise, you will just end up in an even bigger mess. This can be a great time to get rid of years of piled up clutter.

Label

Every box and bag, every piece of furniture and its place in the new home needs to have a label on it. This will make your life so much easier. You can use a numbering system; for example, 1.3.2. can mean kitchen – third cabinet – second shelf. Or you can just write it out using words. Labelling is important if you are moving alone, but it is even more important if you are having someone help you. If you can, get some painter’s tape and label the places in the new home too. Simply put a piece of tape on a shelf and write what will go there. This will make the unpacking process so much easier once you get to it. Another good idea is to have a notebook where you will write all of it down, so nothing is left forgotten.

Make a schedule

If you have a set date when you need to move, then you should plan around that. If not, then you can give yourself as much time as you need, but setting deadlines is a great idea, no matter what your plan is. Set an exact date by which all of your things should be packed, or several dates when a specific room or area should be cleared. If you are redecorating the new home before moving your things, set deadlines for that as well, and a few unpacking deadlines too. It’s easy to get excited when moving, thinking about how you are going to decorate your new home and how much fun you will have. However, it is just as easy to get completely demotivated when you are half way through the unpacking process, so having an “unpack deadline” will help you focus on finishing the job.

Get help

Moving is a lot of work, and it might seem like a daunting task to do it alone – but you can always ask for help! Friends and family will always be willing to help you with the smaller tasks which usually include packing or moving smaller items. But you don’t want to overburden someone and risk having them back off completely, which is why hiring a moving company is a good idea for more complicated tasks, like moving your furniture. If you live in Brisbane, Moveage Group is there to help, or if you are in another area, there will certainly be someone who meets your needs. Hiring a moving company will not only take a huge load off your shoulders, but will also be there to advise you on the best way to transport your belongings.

Packing can get boring very easily, so try to treat it less like something you have to do and more like something you enjoy doing. Daydream about your new home and the life you will have there, and imagine where you will put every single thing you pack. Remember that this is just the first step towards a new chapter, so make sure you get off to a good start!

Since I spend a lot of time at home (especially in the kitchen) I always look for low cost ways to improve the space for me and my family. Sometimes is just a small change like colorful curtains or new sofa pillows and sometimes I try to find a good way to organize small space.
