Japan company hires ‘beer intern’

Japanese tech company Technomobile is hoping to lure young talents by offering free beer at work.

The Tokyo-based company is accepting applicants for its “beer intern” position that allows budding web developers to work on complicated coding while with a cold one in hand, according to a report by Japan Today.

The internship requires its applicants to use the Ruby on Rails application framework to complete web development assignments while drinking beer.

The programme aims to “help clear away tension by having a beer and let interns experience the working atmosphere at Technomobile and see if they are compatible with it”.

Having at least one year of open source development or web server construction experience is required. And of course within legal drinking age, in this case, 25 or older. The boozy internship could also lead to prospective career as as a programmer, infrastructure engineer, or system engineer.

The internships will take place on 22 and 23 April, from 1 to 6pm.
