Google commemorated this year’s Earth Day with a new Doodle featured on the main page of its Internet Search engine. Unlike many of the company’s previously released Doodles that contained numerous interactive elements, the newly introduced one is a simple storyboard that follows a hand-drawn fox that’s experiencing a nightmare of a heavily polluted Earth where fish are dying, Arctic ice is melting, and many other adverse effects of global warming are observable in every part of the world. Following that revelation, the fox wakes up and decides to do its part to help preserve the Earth from further harm. Accompanied by several animal friends — some of which were previously featured in a number of Google-made products — the fox starts carpooling, consciously saving electricity, eating less meat, and making other minor lifestyle decisions aimed at preserving the planet.

In addition to the charming Doodle storyboard, Google also launched a new feature called Earth Day Tips that can be accessed by searching for its name in Google Search or by simply clicking or tapping the “Learn More” button that appears on the last panel of the company’s new Earth Day Doodle. Doing either of those things will bring you to a regular Search interface that’s only ennobled with a new Card that says “Let’s make a happier planet!” Tapping that card prompts a short animated slideshow that contains tips for preserving the planet. Among other things, Google suggests you plant a tree, unplug unused electronics, and start relying on carpooling and public transit more than you currently do, in addition to eating locally sourced foods over imported goods, all with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste. The Mountain View-based tech giant has been increasing its focus on renewable energy in recent years, with the company announcing many initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions produced as a result of its operations and urging other tech giants to follow suit. That trend is expected to continue in the future and more details on the thereof will likely be available shortly.
