The lead up to the NFL Draft has not been particularly smooth for former Alabama LB Reuben Foster, but his draft stock may not have suffered as much as some expected.

At the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Foster made headlines for getting sent home from the event after a confrontation with a hospital worker. More recently, reports have surfaced that Foster’s urine sample was diluted, meaning it will be treated like testing positive for banned substances or drugs in the eyes of the NFL.

Despite the Combine incident, and the story’s return to the forefront, NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock believes Foster won’t fall too far from his pre-Combine projections of possible top-10 pick.

The Butkus Award winner insists that the diluted test is about hydration after suffering from food poisoning, and not use of any banned substances or drugs.

“I couldn’t eat much, but I had to drink water and Gatorade,” Foster told NFL.com. “Then a few coaches said something about me being too light. And I’m a coach-pleaser. I don’t care what everybody thinks, but I care what coaches think. So I drank and ate as much as I could without throwing up. Then I went in there, drinking and drinking water, trying to flush out my system from whatever was making me sick and trying to keep my weight up and took the test.”

Whether or not teams are buying the food poisoning story as the reason for the test issue, Foster is clearly doing something right in meetings and interviews with teams to keep himself in the top 20 after the Combine.
