‘My face hurts all the time’ Model reveals scars left by ‘ex-boyfriend acid attack'

A FORMER Miss Italy finalist who had acid poured onto her face outside her house and spent two months being treated for her injuries has shown her horrific scars on television for the first time.

Gessica Notaro, 28, removed her scarf on Italian television so viewers could see the burns from the shocking attack, allegedly carried out by an ex-boyfriend.

The model, who was a finalist in the 2007 Miss Italy contest, said: “I want you to see what he did to me. This isn’t love.”

The talk show host said she could keep her scarf on, but the model said she wanted people to see the scars from the January attack.

Ms Notaro’s ex-boyfriend, Jorge Edson Tavares, is on trial for carrying out the attack, which he denies.

She said: “While the acid ate away at my face I was on my knees praying, I prayed to God: take away my beauty but at least leave me with my sight.”

The victim must wait a year until she is well enough for plastic surgery, spending £600 a month on the medication required to ease her pain.

The 28-year-old said: “I did my own two months of prison. I can’t live life as I used to. I can’t go out in the Sun, am constantly trapped in this mask and my face hurts all the time.”

The model is optimistic and despite the damage, she is still able to sing.

She said: “And the most important thing I found out that night is that my voice is still there. I risked losing it as the acid ended up in my mouth, but I was alert enough to spit it out.”

Miss Notaro claims her ex-boyfriend became possessive after she dumped him.

After she went to the police to complain she was being stalked, and a restraining order was imposed on him.

She said: “He followed me everywhere I went, threatened me and never left me alone. He even staged a fake suicide, trying to appeal to my sensitivity. He came to my house with a rope and pretended to hang himself from the gate in my front yard.”

The former couple met in 2004 when they worked at a dolphin show at the aquarium together.
