Department Profile

Professionals within Legal and Compliance provide a wide range of services to our business units. They might help to structure a complex and sensitive cross-border transaction; advise on a new product introduction; develop a training program or defuse an investor dispute. They preserve the firm’s invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements around the world. They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the firm’s businesses.

Background on the Team

The Wealth Management Advisory Legal group provides legal advice and counsel to Morgan Stanley's Wealth Management business segment. The Wealth Management segment provides comprehensive financial services to clients through a network of over 16,000 representatives and has in excess of $2 trillion in client assets. Financial Advisors are located in branches across the U.S. and provide solutions designed to accommodate the individual investment objectives, risk tolerance and liquidity needs of investors residing in and outside the U.S.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

-Role: VP/ED, commensurate with experience

-Attorney will advise on a wide variety of legal issues originating in the WM branches, such as

-Document modifications, NDA's, pre-hire FA reviews, senior issues, advise on unique transactions and strategic initiatives

-For offices designated as International Wealth Offices, negotiate agreements for non-US clients, review, modify rules of the road for FAs traveling abroad, review country-specific product restrictions and strategic initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills required (essential)

Should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong problem solving skills.

-Must have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and have experience in a multi-disciplinary background.

-Must possess a JD with a minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience
