West Coast v Hawthorn: Sam Mitchell ruled out of showdown with Hawks

Sam Mitchell will miss the chance to face former club Hawthorn after he was ruled out of Sunday's MCG clash with an ankle injury.

The Brownlow medallist had been in doubt to take on the side he led to the 2008 premiership after hurting his ankle in last week's win over Sydney, and has not been named in West Coast's 25-man squad for the clash against his long-time coach Alastair Clarkson's bottom-placed side.

The Eagles will name their 22 on Friday. Jack Darling, Dom Sheed, Mark Hutchings and Malcolm Karpany have been included in their squad.

The Hawks are yet to confirm a change to the team that was thumped by 86 points by Geelong on Monday. Of those who didn't play in the loss to the Cats, Daniel Howe, Kade Stewart and Ty Vickery have been named in Hawthorn's 25-man squad.

The Western Bulldogs have recalled premiership player Shane Biggs for the game against the Brisbane Lions - Bob Murphy's 300th - at Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Biggs returns to the side at the expense of Travis Cloke, who broke his ribs in the Good Friday win over North Melbourne.

The Roos have axed former Bulldog Nathan Hrovat for Saturday night's game away to Fremantle at Domain Stadium. North have also decided to rest ruckman Braydon Preuss, with Mason Wood and the untested Ed Vickers-Willis coming into the side.

Winless Sydney have been boosted by the inclusions of Kurt Tippett, Isaac Heeney and Gary Rohan - who return from a mixture of injury and illness - to face Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night at the SCG. The Swans have made four changes in total, including dumping promising defender Aliir Aliir. Veteran Steve Johnson returns for the Giants at the expense of youngster Tim Taranto. Johnson's last game against the Swans was last year's qualifying final win after which he was suspended for an incident involving Sydney star Josh Kennedy.

St Kilda ruckman Billy Longer is set to play his first game since 2015 against Geelong on Sunday with fellow big man Tom Hickey being rested. The only other certain out for the Saints is David Armitage (groin).

While the teams for Monday night's Richmond-Melbourne game and Tuesday's Essendon-Collingwood clash won't be named until Saturday, Dons rookie Ben McNiece is in the frame for an Anzac Day debut against the Pies after being upgraded to the senior list.
