The 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Soundtrack Has Been Revealed

Few blockbuster films are as synonymous with their soundtrack as “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Marvel‘s rip-roaring space adventure laid out the importance of music in its very first trailer, introducing a new generation of fans to the unavoidably catchy funk of Blue Swede‘s “Hooked on a Feeling.” James Gunn also doubled down on the music in the movie itself, making his main character’s old Walkman the only connection he had with his home planet. So while plenty of folks are excited for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” the movie, just as many are ready to rip off the plastic wrap on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” the soundtrack.

Gunn’s soundtrack listing looks awesome — seriously, I would definitely listen to everything on that playlist — but it’s also one with deeply cinematic roots. I look at each of those songs and immediately think of how they’ve been used in other movies: from Electric Light Orchestra‘s “Mr. Blue Sky” (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind“) to Parliament‘s “Flash Light” (“The Heat“), each of these songs has the right balance of familiarity and freshness to make the soundtrack stand out. James Gunn may make some pretty excellent movies, but soundtracks are where the dude really shines.
