In four of the past five seasons, the Cedar Park Christian-Bothell baseball team’s season has ended in the state regionals. The Eagles hope to go further this year, and just might have the team to do it.
“We’ve been knocking on the door, no doubt about it,” CPC-Bothell coach Matt Stevens said. “This group hopes to break through and leave a legacy. The have the ability. With the seniors, there’s a sense of urgency; there’s definitely a difference in the way they’re approaching things. We try to focus on the process, but in reality we have aspirations and goals that we’d like to achieve.”
The Eagles (11-0, 8-0 in conference play) are led by Michael Attalah, the team’s top pitcher, No. 3 hitter and conference most valuable player contender. Other key players include shortstop Turner Glenn, catcher Zack Cokos, center fielder Luke Lampe, pitcher Grant Gilmore and outfielder Luke Sergeant.
“We start five or six seniors at a time, so we have a lot of guys that have played big games. That experience has helped,” Stevens said. “It’s been a team effort. They came in ready to go from day one. They have different personalities, but they play as hard as any group I’ve been around, and they like to have fun. It’s been a good year so far.”
