Aspall has announced the launch of a premium, mid-strength cider named ‘Aspall Cyder’.

The 4.5% ABV drink has been launched in a bid to satisfy operators’ and consumers’ growing demand for a mid-strength, draught cider without compromising taste or quality.

Like Aspall Suffolk Draught Cyder, which has a 5.5% ABV, the new cider is made by blending culinary and bittersweet apple varieties.

Available in kegs from next month (April), packaged will follow on 1 May when it is rolled out in Waitrose as the company’s first canned cider.

Crisp and fruity

Aspall Cyder chief executive Des Smith said the new brand answered calls for a mid-strength cider with Aspall’s “hallmark crisp and fruity taste”.

He added: “Made with the same obsessive attention to detail as all the ciders in our range, Aspall Cyder reflects our proud cider-making heritage while responding to current demands from a wider market.

“We are confident Aspall Cyder will prove a massive hit in both the on- and off-trade, especially as the warmer days arrive.”

Joint venture with Hobo Beer & Co

In March last year, the Suffolk-based cider company acquired a “substantial” share in Hobo Beer & Co after it launched East Coast Cyder in cans across the on-trade.

Hobo Beer & Co co-founder Stuart Eskins lauded the joint venture with Aspall.

He said: “Their knowledge of all things apple has enabled us to create, what we believe to be, the perfect cider for all drinking occasions.”
