CBP arrests formerly deported sex offenders trying to cross back into the U.S.

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Two men from Mexico, both previously deported, were arrested last week after they attempted to reenter the U.S., according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection release.

The first man, identified as Vicente Gonzalez-Hernandez was arrested on Thursday, March 23 in the desert near Sasabe, south of Tucson by BP agents from the Tucson Station.  According to the release, agents learned that Gonzalez had been convicted of felony assault to commit mayhem/rape in California and was removed from the U.S. in February after serving one year in prison.

A second man was arrested on Saturday, March 25 outside Douglas, AZ.  BP agents arrested Jose Luis Cornejo-Contreras and learned during processing that he had multiple convictions of battery and one conviction of sexual intercourse with a minor, for which he served jail time in California.

According to the release, both men now face charges for illegal re-entry as a convicted felon.
