FF News
Premier League clubs Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Burnley are believed to be showing interest in Chester's young defender Sam Hughes. The defender has been in fine form for the Vanarama National League club this season, even becoming the club's youngest ever captain when he led the side out against Tranmere Rovers. Earlier in the season, following a home defeat against Lincoln City, Chester boss Jon McCarthy spoke highly of his young star He said "I'm sure my board and everyone wants me to rave about Sam because we might get a little bit more money for him, but I don't need to. He knows exactly what I think of him. I had him in the office before the game for a chat and he knows how well he's doing. "Things weren't going well for Sam when he was on loan at Witton Albion last season, but we've worked with him since then, built up his confidence, and now he's flying, and I'll be ready to catch him when he falls." SkyBet Championship club Barnsley, a club well-known for doing their transfer business in non-league, were credited with an interest in Hughes earlier in the season. It is believed that the Tykes made an unsuccessful offer for the defender, but could return for him in the summer. Championship rivals Wolves, Aston Villa and Birmingham City have also shown an interest in the young defender. Hughes is out of contract in the summer and has been offered a new deal by Chester.
