MORE than 200 people have signed a petition urging the Highways Department to take action over a hazardous road junction before someone is killed.

A number of residents have complained to councillors about having difficulty leaving Batchley Road and turning right on to Hewell Road.

Councillor Gareth Prosser, together with councillor Brandon Clayton, recently presented a petition to county councillor Marcus Hart, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for Highways, demanding action be taken.

The councillors want a mini island built.

Cllr Prosser said over the years there have been a number of near misses between vehicles coming together, causing a number of problems for residents.

"These two main roads converge here, as well as been on a bus route to and from Batchley," he said.

"And now with Redditch Borough Council agreeing to more houses to be built in Brockhill, this junction will become a bigger hazard with more traffic on the road.

"The large number of residents we spoke to were very pleased that someone was taking an interest in their views and was prepared to fight for them."

Cllr Clayton said they have spoken to the Highways Department, which is happy to look into the issue, and hopes their plans will be presented to the highways committee after the forthcoming county council elections in May.

He added: "I would like to thank all of the residents of Batchley for taking the time to talk to us and also explaining about other issues in the area."
