No alcohol sales at BMO Harris Bradley Center during NCAA tournament games
Not all fans watching tournament basketball at the BMO Harris Bradley Center will be able to sit back and enjoy alcoholic beverages over the weekend.
"Only in private spaces and private suites that have prepurchased," said arena general manager Paul Jansen. "We cannot, according to the NCAA, sell alcohol at this event."
The NCAA doesn't allow alcohol to be sold during championship events.
WISN 12 News talked to Minnesota fans at a pep rally. Some were aware of the rules.
"I've been to a couple NCAA tournaments, and after you said it, it reminded me," said David Mrozek.
Jiff Sinna joined a group of 100 others from Minnesota at the Hilton Hotel. He doesn't plan on drinking, but he was surprised to hear that people can't buy alcohol.
"I was not aware of that," Sinna said.
The NCAA postseason no alcohol-sales policy is different than the regular season.
"We do sell to the general public at Marquette games," Jansen said. "That's our decision to do that. Since we're an off-campus facility we are allowed to do that."
Bob Spitzfaden arrived in Milwaukee from Alaska. He's a big basketball fan but was not happy he can't enjoy a few beers in the seats.
"If you think about all the stupid rules the NCAA has, this is just one of them," said Spitzfaden.
Multiple bars plan on opening early for fans who want to get a few drinks before the games begin.
