The Herald’s 2017 All-Area Girls Basketball Teams

The player of the year and All-Area teams were chosen by The Herald sports staff and based on input from area coaches, all-league selections and first-hand observations.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Samantha Fatkin, sr., Glacier Peak.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Ken Roberts, Snohomish. Roberts led a young Panthers team to a 20-7 overall record, a second-place finish in Wesco 3A/2A and a third-place finish at the 3A Hardwood Classic.

FIRST TEAM

Samantha Fatkin, sr., G, Glacier Peak. Fatkin averaged 14.4 points, 2.9 rebounds. 7.2 assists and 2 steals per game. She was selected the Wesco 4A player of the year.

Kayla Watkins, sr., C, Glacier Peak. Watkins averaged 16.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. She was an All-Wesco 4A first-team selection.

Paisley Johnson, sr., G, Glacier Peak. Johnson averaged 15.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.6 steals per game. She was an All-Wesco 4A first-team selection.

Taryn Shelley, sr., C, Shorewood. Shelley averaged 16 points, 15.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. She was an All-Wesco 3A/2A first-team selection.

Kaprice Boston, sr., G, Lynnwood. Boston averaged 14.6, 6.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 3.3 steals per game. She was named the Wesco 3A/2A player of the year.

SECOND TEAM

Kelsey Rogers, sr., C, Lynnwood. Rogers averaged 14 points, 8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. She was an All-Wesco 3A/2A first-team selection.

Ashley Alter, jr., F, Stanwood. Alter averaged 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game. She was an All-Wesco 3A/2A first-team selection.

Kaitlin Larson, jr., F, Stanwood. Larson averaged 11.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She was an All-Wesco 3A/2A first-team selection.

Kylee Griffen, jr., F, Lake Stevens. Griffen averaged 17.5 points and 11 rebounds per game. She was an All-Wesco 4A first-team selection.

Sarah Payne, sr., G, Kamiak. Payne averaged 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, hitting 34 percent of her 3-point attempts. She was an All-Wesco 4A first-team selection.
