reasons to meal prep

Meal prep is one of the easiest and healthiest ways to achieve your financial and health goals. If you’re like most people, you’re super busy and it seems as if there is never enough time in the day to accomplish everything on your to-do list. Amidst all of the responsibility, striving to live a healthier lifestyle becomes somewhat of a distant memory.

However, by proper planning and preparing, you’ll be more successful at achieving your health (and financial) goals.

They are the same principles that you would apply to becoming a successful business professional or entrepreneur. In order to be successful you have to plan, prepare and execute.

Although you may argue that you exercise regularly, what you put in your mouth is more important, than time spent in the gym. Now don’t cancel your gym membership; fitness still plays a major role.

Here are 3 reasons to meal prep:

It Allows You to Control Ingredients
When you purchase packaged foods and/or eat out, you may expose your body to a host of food additives that are toxic. These additives include preservatives, artificial flavors and colors, artificial sweeteners, pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics. These additives can disrupt your hormones and promote inflammation; some have even been deemed as carcinogenic. Preparing your own meals can help reduce the toxic load in your body.

It Gives You Peace of Mind
I’ve never met anyone who jumps for joy because their life is filled with chaos and frustration. As aforementioned, most people plan and prepare for success, yet fail to apply the same principles to self-care and longevity. If you had had a long day at work the last thing you want to do is stand in front of the refrigerator and piece a meal together for the family. Meal prepping takes the guesswork out of meal time.

It Saves Money
Most people don’t realize how much money they spend on “convenience foods.” If you compare the cost of purchasing and preparing your own food vs. buying food on the go, you’ll realize that you save much more money preparing food yourself. I personally know this to be true. When I worked on Wall Street I used the excuse “I don’t have time” as the reason for my lack of meal prep. I would purchase breakfast, lunch, snacks, and sometimes even dinner; everyday and then wonder where the huge deductions originated when I checked my bank account.

Don’t convince yourself that you don’t have time to meal prep. To get started, pick a day (typically Saturday or Sunday) and meal prep for the week. Doing this will help you reduce stress as you transition into your journey of a healthier lifestyle. Once you get into a routine, it will become second nature.
