CPC-Mountlake Terrace 50, Clallam Bay 39
SPOKANE — CPC-Mountlake Terrace and its six-person roster relied on 38 combined points from Jennifer Perekopskaya and Jamie Copeland to earn a win over Clallam Bay during a loser-out 1B state tournament game Wednesday.
Just two weeks ago, the Lions (22-3) lost a tri-district tournament overtime matchup to Clallam Bay, but a big offensive boost from Perekopskaya (17 points) and Copeland (21) plus tighter perimeter defense spurred CPC to a win, setting the Lions up with a quarterfinal matchup against Republic at 12:15 p.m. Thursday.
“Everyone gears up to stop Salome Yosef,” CPC-Mountlake Terrace coach Bill Kelley said, “but when other players are hitting (shots), it takes a load off. Jamie Copeland had nine points in the first quarter. That really got us started.”
Copeland helped CPC rebound from a 7-0 deficit, as the Lions ended the first quarter on a 15-1 run and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
Archbishop Murphy 41, Prosser 37
YAKIMA — Archbishop Murphy limited Prosser to a three-point second quarter and held onto its lead late to beat the Mustangs 41-37 during a Class 2A state tournament loser-out game Wednesday night at the Yakima SunDome.
Archbishop Murphy’s Lexi Ducheane came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points, and Olivia Riojas added 9.
The win sets the Wildcats (19-4) up with a state quarterfinal matchup against W.F. West at 9 p.m. Thursday.
