In a few days, NuAns will be announcing the successor to the Neo, and Windows 10 Mobile fans will be disappointed to learn that the device will run Android 7.1 Nougat, rather than Microsoft"s struggling mobile OS.
The news shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, as while many fans were excited about the Neo when it launched in Japan, it performed terribly when the company started a crowd-funding campaign to launch the handset globally, achieving less than 20% of its goal. The Windows 10 Mobile OS isn"t doing any better either, as market share continues to fall.
Last month at CES, we got a chance to interview the president of NuAns. He expressed that he has been disappointed with Windows 10 Mobile, because when the company first began development of the Neo, Microsoft had bigger plans for it, and made bigger promises. For example, the firm promised to upgrade all Windows Phone 8.1 devices to Windows 10, but that only ended up happening for a small subset of devices.
Aside from Android 7.1, the handset - called the Neo Reloaded - is expected to include a Snapdragon 625 chipset (2GHz octa-core ARM Cortex-A53), a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 3GB RAM, a 3,450mAh battery, a rear camera with f/2 aperture, and a front with f/2.4. Pricing will be ¥49,800 (around $440 USD), and it will contain the same unique types of back covers that the Neo did.
