Could Mark Helfrich Land With Washington Huskies As An Assistant Coach?
Last week, Steve Sarkisian left Alabama to become Offensive Coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, now a potential opening exists for Mark Helfrich in the Conference of Champions.
He has set his eyes on the Pac-12 hiring Washington Assistant Bush Hamdan for his first NFL gig according to NBC Sports.
The departure of Hamdan leaves an opening on Chris Peterson’s staff. With Chip Kelly remaining in the NFL one name comes to mind. Former Oregon Football Head Coach Mark Helfrich is certainly a viable candidate for the open Wide Receivers Coach/Passing Game Coordinator opening with the Huskies. Since his firing from Oregon in November, Helfrich has been rumored to several schools including Tennessee.

So now, both Alabama and Washington have openings on Offense for an Assistant. Both teams were in the College Football Playoff. The Crimson Tide lost in the National Championship Game to the Clemson Tigers.
Mark Helfrich and another former Oregon Coach Chip Kelly were rumored last week to be in the running at Alabama before the Sarkisian hire. Earlier this week Helfrich sold his Eugene home, but is nearing completion of a house in the nearby Coburg Hills according to the Register Guard. It seems he is not in a rush to leave the area – at least for now.
Helfrich had an over $11 million buyout and could see some of those funds taken away when he does take a position at another school.
