Mysterious fish-shaped ditches have begun appearing throughout a peaceful village, perplexing the populace and prompting a full-scale investigation. No, it isn't the plot to a Junji Ito manga; it's the set up for Splash! Magikarp (Haneru! Koiking), an upcoming mobile game featuring the stalwart vacant-eyed fish from the Pokémon franchise.
So far we only have the Japanese teaser site to work with, but we do know that Splash! Magikarp is scheduled for a Spring 2017 release across iOS and Android devices and is being developed by Select Button, the Japanese studio behind the similarly fishy Survive! Mola Mola! for smartphones.
You'll note that a third-party studio will be handling development duties for this official Pokémon spin-off game, and this falls in line with previous comments made by Nintendo suggesting it could turn to additional studios outside of DeNA for upcoming mobile titles.
(thou on hindsight, they should've used Alomomola)
Not really... but it haunts my dreams
