Get ready to build your way to victory once more. Lock's Quest is getting the remaster treatment and will be coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 systems in April. While THQ may have gone bankrupt in 2013, Nordic Games has since acquired the bulk of the defunct publisher's catalog, including Lock's Quest. In fact, the publisher even reincorporated as THQ Nordic last year. Lock's Quest is certainly alive and well, and anyone who happened to miss out on the game on the DS now has a second chance.
The tower defense game was originally developed by 5TH Cell for the Nintendo DS and published by THQ. THQ Nordic has tapped New York City-based developer Digital Continue for the remaster effort, citing Lock's Quest as the "newest entry" to the publisher's meaningful asset program. Digital Continue is a recently formed, independent developer that's also working on a new IP they hope to announce at some point this year.
When tasking Digital Continue with the Lock's Quest remaster, they had to walk a fine line between keeping the visuals and core gameplay in line with what 5TH Cell created for the initial DS release while adapting the UI, controls, and remastering the music for current generation gaming systems. Digital Continue also added a new progression system that integrated itself with the storyline. The remaster developer wasn't all alone in their endeavor, as some members from the original game's development team helped out. Perhaps the most notable addition to the remaster is the Antonia Defense, an endless combat mode that ends when you either get bored or fall.
Lock's Quest was a hidden gem on the Nintendo DS, often overlooked in favor of heavy hitting titles like Pokémon, Final Fantasy IV, or Chrono Trigger. If you missed out on the original DS game back in 2008, you'll only have a month or so to wait to give it a shot. Lock's Quest will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC this April.
