The Archbishop Murphy boys swimming and diving team has to do some things a little differently. Wildcats coach Erin Edmundson has to scramble to fill out her team’s dual meet schedule every year because Archbishop Murphy competes as an independent. Also, the Wildcats practice before school because the nearby pool, West Coast Aquatics in Mill Creek, is used by the Jackson swimming team in the afternoon.
But despite these challenges, Archbishop Murphy has turned out top-notch squads in recent years, and this season is no different. Wildcats coach Erin Edmundson said her team is shooting for a top-five finish at this weekend’s 2A state meet, to be held Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
“We have some scenarios that can be tough to deal with,” Edmundson said. “(But) this group is close like family. They support each other. They’ve got great team spirit. They’ve trained well, and they’re mentally ready for the postseason.”
Wildcats Tony Mikhail (200 freestyle, 500 free), Ryan Price (100 butterfly, 200 individual medley), William Walters (100 backstroke, 200 IM) and Robert de Mello e Souza (100 free, 100 fly) will compete this weekend in their individual events as well as the 200 medley and 400 free relays.
