Delaware’s Governor and Lt. Governor Declare Feb. 12 “Charles Darwin Day” Throughout the State

We don’t get a lot of nice news in politics these days, so enjoy this one while you can: Delaware Governor John Carney and Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long signed a proclamation declaring Feb. 12 “Charles Darwin Day” across the state.

Whereas, Charles Darwin is recognized for the development of the Theory of Evolution; and

Whereas, Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is the foundation of modern biology, an essential tool in understanding the development of life on earth; and

Whereas, the anniversary of Darwin’s birthday is a time to reflect and celebrate the importance of his scientific achievements; and

Whereas, the State of Delaware is proud of its commitment to scientific research.

Now, Therefore, We, John Carney, Governor, and Bethany Hall-Long, Lieutenant Governor, do hereby declare February 12th, 2017, as

Charles Darwin Day

in the State of Delaware, and urge all citizens to join us in celebrating his tremendous contributions and achievements in the field of science.

As with all proclamations like these, it’s purely symbolic, but that doesn’t mean it’s not appreciated.
