Does this switch supposed to move to three places???
Position 1= Off
Position 2= running lights/side markers
Position 3= Fails to go to position 3
Unless position 3 is supposed to be a flashing of you high beams????
I would hope that someone might make a video if this site will support it showing the switches and what they do...

Well that explains why I don't have any headlamps then. Mine won't go into the third position.
That, sadly, is an all-too-common problem, especially if that is an original switch branded "Clear Hooters" rather than Lucas (although Lucas switches fail as well; I mean, they're only plastic, and who expected it to last 40+ years?)!http://www.fairpoint.net/~herald948/database/

You may be able to pry it apart and get it working again, at least temporarily. IIRC, the back of the rocker part has a tab on it that moves around a copper piece to provide connection between various contacts. It can get a little off track when worn and jam. Of course the long term solution is to buy a new switch. They’re not particularly pricey. Temporarily any generic switch properly rated will work as well.

This is all there is inside. If you take it apart carefully, you will be able to see the relationships between the pieces. If it flies apart, it is still not that big of a deal. It may be obvious why it does not work when you open it.

Alas..It looks like the switch was toast. I don't know exactly which switch this is...ie being the Lucas switch or the other switch called clear hooters?? The gentleman from the shop advised me to stay away from. This switch had one ball bearing.
