Although the abortion rate has been decreasing overall, LifeNews.com reports that hundreds of thousands of abortions are still taking place every year, and 35 percent of them are performed by Planned Parenthood.
A recent report by the Guttmacher Institute on the abortion rate has revealed that overall, in the last five years from 2010 to 2014, the abortion rate has dropped.
In 2010, 1,102,700 abortions were performed in the U.S., while in 2014, 926,200 abortions were performed. Life News, however, notes that this does not include abortions that occur from certain contraceptives.
Planned Parenthood has reported that it performed 323,999 abortions in 2014, which means that it performed 35 percent of all abortions that year.
Although Planned Parenthood claims that abortions are only a small fraction of services they provide, the fact that they performed nearly 324,000 abortions in a year has motivated many pro-life activists and a number of lawmakers to make defunding the organization a priority.
