Mott MacDonald has appointed Mike Haigh as managing director of its global business.

Mr Haigh has been promoted from his role as managing director for the consultancy’s Europe and Africa arm.

His new role will see him in charge of the day-to-day management and operational performance of the company’s £1.6bn global business, which employs 16,000 staff.

Mr Haigh has spent more than 35 years with Mott MacDonald, which he joined as a graduate engineer in 1981.

He held a number of senior roles in the firm’s water business before joining the executive board in 2013.

Mott MacDonald group chairman Keith Howells said: “I’ve known Mike since he joined us as a graduate, and I’m delighted to have him running our worldwide operations in his new role as group managing director, building on his experience of managing our Europe, UK and Africa, and Middle East and South Asia businesses.”

Mr Haigh said: “As an employee for over 30 years I know just how innovative and creative Mott MacDonald can be.”
