The Big Bang Theory Season 10 Episode 13 Review: The Romance Recalibration

Who ever thought Sheldon could be helpful when it comes to relationships?

(Not me, that's for sure.)

On The Big Bang Theory Season 10 Episode 13 Penny and Leonard have relationship trouble, while Sheldon and Amy are nauseatingly happy with one another.

Penny feels as though Leonard is taking her for granted and that the romance has gone away.

When she brings it up, they get into a fight about it, and Penny decides to take Amy on their planned spa weekend instead of Leonard.

It's all kind of a bummer, and it's pretty uncomfortable to watch. I don't mind seeing marital conflict – in fact, I welcome the chance to see more of their relationship since that's something that's been lacking recently.

But this is somehow too serious and sudden.

I also take issue with Penny leaving Leonard at home when the spa weekend could very well have been a nice couples weekend for the two of them.

Sure, if she's mad in the moment she might say he can't go with her, but it seems more reasonable to me to imagine that a weekend away together would be what they'd need if she's worried about their relationship becoming too comfortable.

Leonard and Sheldon interrupt the spa weekend, though, and Leonard insists on talking to Penny. Their decision is pretty surprising, but it's also perfect.

I absolutely love that they ask Sheldon to draft them a relationship agreement.

An Interruption - The Big Bang Theory Season 10 Episode 13

Because hey, some of Sheldon's habits can actually be pretty useful. Sheldon's contracts have always been a bit much, but let's be honest, a rule about limiting how often a guy can sit in his underwear to play video games?

It's not a bad idea.

And honestly, neither is a rule about saying everything's fine when it clearly isn't.

Meanwhile, Sheldon and Amy seem to be happier than ever, and that's due in large part to the effort Sheldon is putting into it.

He's working on showing an interest in Amy (and his friends), even though he still doesn't always quite understand what it is he's taking an interest in.

But he's trying, and his continued efforts to be better at relationships is making it a lot more fun to watch him and Amy together.

Girl Talk - The Big Bang Theory Season 10 Episode 13

As for Howard and Bernadette (and Raj), the focus is on a squeaky floor.

It might seem like a small problem at first, but after getting an infant down to sleep, a squeaky floor is the last thing you want to have to deal with.

Since fixing it will be too expensive, Howard and Raj plot out a path to the crib that avoids every squeaky floorboard.

That path, however, isn't exactly an easy one. And as Bernadette points out, it's also not realistic if you're holding a baby. It's a nice try, but it seems to me they're going to have to replace that floor.

At least the nursery is basically the cutest thing ever.

Other Thoughts:

  • Where is the baby when Howard is showing Bernadette the "plot" to the room? I know we aren't ever supposed to see the baby, but I'd like to know she's in the house somewhere...
  • It's time for Raj to have something else to do, and I'd like it to be something of substance.
  • I love that Penny's fantasy doesn't include a fancy dinner like you'd expect, but instead something simple:

Pink wine and pizza bagels? It's like 8th grade all over again.
