Designs revealed for Liverpool’s tallest tower

Designs have been revealed for a PRS scheme that would become Liverpool’s tallest tower.

Ovatus 2, situated close to Liverpool’s world heritage site, would include more than 450 privately rented apartments.

Pre-application consultation documents revealed that the proposed height of the building had been increased from 40 to 42 storeys, which would make it two storeys taller than Liverpool’s current highest building, the £35m West Tower completed by Carillion in 2007.

Ovatus 2 will stand adjacent to the 27-storey Ovatus 1, which has been designed by architect Hodder + Partners.

A planning application was submitted for Ovatus 1, which is valued at £35m and includes 168 homes, in December 2016. A full planning application is expected for Ovatus 2 in the coming weeks.

Both schemes are being developed by Prospect Capital, while the planning application for Ovatus 1 was supported by consultancy Indigo Planning, alongside consultancy WSP.

The site for Ovatus 1 is currently vacant, with the developer targeting a start date of April 2017 if planning permission is granted.

However, the land for Ovatus 2 currently houses a data centre, and developers would have to wait until 2018 for the building to become vacant before works could begin on the larger tower.
