Speed isn’t necessarily thought of as a critical asset for a basketball player to have, but it definitely has its uses on the court. Just ask Marysville Getchell girls basketball coach Shannon Grandbois — her team relies on it.
“We’ve put in an early-offense running game (that we deploy) before we get to the half-court,” she said. “Running the court like we do can make a difference. Nobody on our team is slow. Oshinaye Taylor is the leading (track) runner in the state. Athleticism and speed are keys to the way we play.”
Grandbois said a top-three Wesco 3A finish is attainable for her team (8-5 overall, 3-2 conference), which has relied on the contributions of senior co-captains Carley Wila, Gabby Grandbois and Jadyn Noriega, and freshman Maddy Grandbois.
“The season has gone well. We’ve made some big gains and made a lot of adjustments,” Shannon Grandbois said. “We’ve done some great team bonding. I think good things are coming for us.”
