IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) admits that his team members are advising him to resume his career at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds.

Last September, Brook moved up by two weight divisions to challenge IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at the O2 Arena in London.

He had his moments against Golovkin, but suffered a fractured orbital bone and was stopped in the fifth round. The injury related surgery has kept him out of the ring, but his next fight is being planned for a date in May.

Right now Brook, and his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, are trying to figure out their next move.

There are ongoing talks for a domestic blockbuster with Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs). Brook is pushing to have that fight in May.

Khan, who underwent surgery on a right hand injury and has been inactive since a May 2016 knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez, is not on board with having that fight in May. He wants to have a tuneup fight in April, and then he will concentrate on a fight with Brook in the fall.

There is also the issue of Brook's mandatory obligation with Errol Spence (20-0, 18 KOs). If Brook decides to fight someone other than Spence, the sanctioning body will strip him of his world title

Brook wants to remain at the welterweight limit of 147, where there are very big names - like Khan, Manny Pacquiao, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia. He's also considering the possibility of going up to 154.

Brook's team, for safety reasons, want him at a higher weight.

“The team around me want me to move to 154-pounds because they know I perform better at the higher weight. But because I’m stubborn and I’m world champion at 147-pounds, I want to stay down here," Brook told Sky Sports.

“We’re talking about this Spence character, he’s mandatory, we’ve even been talking about Manny Pacquiao, Keith Thurman, there are all these fights and we’ve wanted to have these fights for years but I’m stubborn and I really want to stay down here at 147.

“We’re in a predicament now, what do we do; 154 or 147 where do we go? We’re still in talks with many different options, but Amir Khan is still my main target, it’s got to be him.”
