2016 was an amazing year for smartphones. We have seen groundbreaking technology as well as major fails. The Bezel-less design of the Mi Mix and the Modular concept of the Moto Z stood out among the best, the LG G5 and the Samsung Note 7 left us disappointed.

We take a look at the upcoming and awaited smartphones in 2017, so let’s dig in!

1. Samsung Galaxy S8:


Samsung has seen both sides of the coin in 2016. The Galaxy S7 Edge was hands down one of the best phones We’ve laid our hands on and it set the bar high for its successor, the Galaxy S8. It was really disheartening when Samsung discontinued the Galaxy Note 7 due to the battery issues, as it seemed very promising.

We can expect a visual overhaul in the Galaxy S8 and powerful components under the hood. We are sure Samsung will join the Flagship race this year, stronger than ever.

2. OnePlus 5:


OnePlus 5? Isn’t it OnePlus4? Well, it is rumored that OnePlus will be following the Microsoft way when it comes to numbers, the company is rumored to be skipping OnePlus 4 in favor of OnePlus 5. The reason being number 4 considered as unlucky.

With that being said, OnePlus was super successful in 2016 with the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. It is rumored that the next installment in this device will flaunt a QHD Display, ceramic body, and tons of hardware updates.

We are excited for this device as it sure will give the higher budget flagships a run for their money.

3. iPhone 8:


We’ve all seen the iPhone 8 appearing on this list a mile off. The 2016’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus had an exciting launch and were well received. This year, however, expectations are a tad bit high as 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of iPhone.

Rumors are up and about already and suggest a complete overhaul in the design department and the removal of the home button. thus making the iPhone 8 an all-screen device. We can also expect it to launch in three variants.

We’re pretty sure the headphone jack won’t be making a return this year.

4. HTC Ocean:

The troubles of HTC are no secret as it struggled financially and failed to deliver. However, things seemed to have changed for better as it made a comeback into the top league with the HTC 10 and went on to partner up with Google for Design and Production of the Pixel and Pixel XL.

The next device from HTC is codenamed Ocean and we are hyped for its launch. It is rumored to flaunt the amazing touch control on its side; if this is true, Samsung will have a serious competition in the EDGE technology.

5. Nokia:


At the beginning of the timeline, before Apple, before Android, there was Nokia. It was the king of the mobile phone market and dominated the non-smartphone era. However, things went downhill when Nokia had trouble evolving and adapting to the new smartphone world and ended up under Microsoft and then slowly faded away. We aren’t considering a particular mobile here, but Nokia as a whole.

It was rumored that Nokia would be making a huge comeback into the smartphone market in 2017, and the die hard fan base prayed for it to be true were elated when Nokia confirmed this rumor as it announced the launch of its Android device, Nokia 6 in 2017.

The Nokia 6 is set to flaunt a 5.5 inch full HD Display with 2.5D Gorilla glass. Crafted from a single block of aluminum, this device is revved by the Adreno 505 GPU, 4GB RAM and 3000 mAh battery under the hood. It has a 16 MP shooter on the back with f/2.0 and phase detection auto-focus and an 8 MP camera on the front.

Sure, the specs aren’t a flagship killer but this device marks the return of a beloved brand. We are sure the future lineup of Nokia is gonna be jaw dropping.
