The Pirate Bay shutdown rumors: TPB to remain afloat, will not be threatened by piracy streaming sites

File-sharers do not have to worry about The Pirate Bay (TPB) shutting down as the administrators behind the reigning torrent king are giving their best to make sure it stays afloat. The previous year was marred with attempts to take down TPB. The most recent effort came from a slew of production companies seeking to ban it in Australia.

The United States government itself is also after The Pirate Bay, which it described as one of "symbolic importance" to the torrenting community for its reach, popularity and being one of the longest-running torrent sites.

Speaking to Torrent Freak on the future of the website, The Pirate Bay admin Spud17 said that "TPB will be around for the foreseeable future."

He also had something to say about how the rising popularity of piracy streaming sites will affect it, and expressed no worries for The Pirate Bay.

"And until the next big thing is invented, torrent sites will continue to grow in popularity, as will streaming sites," he went on to say.

The TPB staff member believes that The Pirate Bay will not be rendered obsolete by this trend on the rise simply because piracy streaming sites are mostly for live events. Simply put, the two have entirely different purposes.

"Streaming will continue to be popular with sports fans, but torrenting and sharing with your peers has always been the way forward. I personally see streaming as a selfish act, but when you torrent, you're sharing with others and helping to stick it to the man,"
Spud17 said.

The Pirate Bay crew member also notes that they are applying what they learned from the shocking downfall of Kickass Torrents last year.

Its demise had torrent fans migrating to The Pirate Bay, making it once again the most visited torrent site despite attempts of bans and takedowns.
