'Goosebumps' author teams up with Marvel Comics

Writer R.L. Stine said the first a five-book series will arrive in March

The author of the scary kid book series "Goosebumps" is teaming up with Marvel Comics. R.L. Stine said on Twitter that he will write five "Man-Thing" comics for Marvel. The first in the five-book deal will be on comic store shelves in March, the writer said. My big announcement: I'm writing 5 MAN-THING comics for Marvel. First one is out in March. Here's a sneak peek: pic.twitter.com/UFrtYZUOfr— R.L. Stine (@RL_Stine) December 10, 2016 In an interview with The New York Times, Stine said his first ambition was to be a comic book artist. "I started doing these little comic books in the fourth grade: ‘Super Stooge,’ the dumbest hero on Earth ... I was terrible,” he said, noting how bad he was at illustration. “I had no choice but to be a writer.” Stine will write the series and Tyler Crook will illustrate the cover art. German Peralta and Daniel Johnson will illustrate the interior pages. The series is inspired by horror comics from the 1950s, of which Stine is a fan, the Times said. "Man-Thing" was created in 1971 by the legendary father of most Marvel characters, Stan Lee, and Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway and artist Gray Morrow. The character is a swamp monster, who lives in in the Florida Everglades in the fictitious town of Citrusville. His first appearance was in Savage Tales No. 1 and carried his own series, including "Adventures into Fear," which also introduced the character "Howard the Duck."
