Monte Carlo Opera has issued the following statement:

‘For health reasons that have lasted 3 months, Mr. Kaufmann is forced to cancel the December 12 date. The artist expresses his great regret at having to do so.

‘The Opéra de Monte-Carlo and Mr. Kaufmann’s management are looking for an alternative date for the artist to make his much awaited Monte-Carlo debut.’

This cancellation was expected after Kaufmann pulled out of yesterday’s high-profile Nobel concert.

It remains to be seen whether he will be in a fit condition to rehearse Lohengrin in Paris at the start of the New Year.

I wonder if he may have nodes on the vocal chords. If so, he would have to be nearly totally silent for about 1 year before he could even speak. I surely hope not for everyone’s sake.

Some years ago he said that he had a ‘mycosis’ on his vocal cords…These things are very hostile – show up all the time.

He himself announced, he suffered a hemmorage. When I had one it took me a couple a months to recover, a little longer to get back in full singing shape.
