A second quake hit not long after first, says USGS

The US Geological Survey reported an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude 7.7 near the Solomon Islands. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami watch for Hawaii that was canceled around 1:43 p.m. EST, according to CNN. The earthquake reportedly struck almost 70k west southwest from the Solomon Islands. According to USGS, another earthquake hit 66k west of the Solomon Islands and measuring at a preliminary magnitude of 5.5.
