An under the radar possibility, Temple Head Coach Matt Rhule has experience that could benefit Oregon Football.

Matt Rhule has been Head Coach at Temple University since 2012. He was a player at Penn State and brings a tough mentality to the Owls. This season the team went 10-3. Last season Temple went 10-4. His rebuild of the program started in 2013 when the team went 2-10, 1-7 in Confernence. The following season there was improvement at 6-6, 4-4 in Conference

He is a successful coach and on Monday became a blip on a very big radar screen of potential Oregon Ducks Head Coach candidates. Rhule also has some West Coast and NFL experience – which seem to be check marks for the Application Process for the job in Eugene.

Rhule started his football career as a Linebacker at Penn State under Joe Paterno. After college he was an assistant UCLA and Western Carolina before stepping into Philadelphia as Defensive Coordinator at Temple in 2006 where he was later named Head Coach. Defense. I guess that means we can check off another box.

The experience on the West Coast was limited. He does not have recruiting experience like other candidates (See Willie Taggart). In the NFL he was the New York Giants Offensive Line Coach under Tom Coughlin. Rhule, like many others, have connections.

If he makes the list that Rob Mullens will see in New York, he may end up as a Wildcard Candidate. There is not much talk of Matt Rhule, but his success bringing the Temple Owls Football program back from the grave cannot be understated.
