Arrow

Season five will end with a flashback of Oliver seeing the boat that originally rescued him from the island—i.e., the opening scenes of the show’s first season. Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim explains this was meant to be the final shot of the series when it ended, but since Arrow has been so successful, it’s now part of the season five finale, and thus the end of the show’s flashback side story.

It was really just a hope at that point [in 2012] that the show would run five years, and we always thought that we would intercut the final moment of the series with the first moment of the series, that it would form one big Moebius strip.

There’s still a part of me that wishes we could do that, the showrunner continues. But I wouldn’t want to artificially extend the flashbacks [beyond five seasons], and I also wouldn’t want to artificially cut the show short. It would’ve been a beautifully elegant thing, and Five Years Ago Me would’ve loved it. But things change, and I do think it’ll make the Season 5 finale pretty awesome.

He also teases the potential for some suitably wild events to occur in the finale.

Look, we have some incredibly clear plans for what we want to do in the Season 5 finale. At the same time, we always leave ourselves room to be like, ‘…and throw this cliffhanger in, throw that twist in.’ Usually the craziest ideas on this show tend to be the ones that the ideas sort of linger, and we never really quite set on them. Like, ‘Oh, maybe we’ll kill off Tommy?’ We don’t fully commit until we’re pretty much breaking the episode.

Timeless

TV Line interviewed Abigail Spencer about the forthcoming Benedict Arnold/Bonnie & Clyde episodes.

TVLINE | It sounds like in the next two episodes — involving Bonnie and Clyde and then Benedict Arnold — things get very tense for the “time team.”

Yeah, a lot more is just going to be revealed, as we get closer [to the winter break]. As with any good action-adventure storyline, you keep learning more truth, and the tensions keep rising.

TVLINE | A synopsis says the three of you form a “dubious pact.”

I feel like every week we form a dubious pact. [Laughs] In the Bonnie and Clyde episode, you’re going to learn a lot more about Wyatt and Lucy, and they’re going to develop a relationship with Bonnie and Clyde, which was great. We also learn more about what Flynn’s after. And then [the Benedict Arnold episode aka] our midseason finale, I can’t wait to see how that one comes together. A lot comes out in that, as well.
