Oregon Ducks Outlast Miami(Ohio), Advance To 2nd Round

The Oregon Ducks saw a back and forth battle all afternoon against Miami(Ohio), but out hit the Redhawks in the end.

The Oregon Volleyball team took on Miami(Ohio) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. The Oregon Ducks did not get off to a good start. It was a battle in the first set.

Oregon stated out hitting at just .080, but turned it around in the end. Lindsey Vander Weide hit close to .600 in the first set as the Ducks took advantage and set 1 over Miami. The Ducks hit .263 in the first set.

The second set also went to the Oregon Ducks, 25-17. The team pulled away after an 11-11 tie to take the set. The third set saw the Ducks come from behind several times but the momentum shifted to Miami in the end.

Oregon outhit Miami .268 to .253 but lost the third set 24-22 forcing a fourth set in Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Through three sets the Ducks were hitting .311 with the Redhawks hitting .167.

Miami came out firing in the fourth set hitting at .320 midway through. Oregon held their own with a 15-14 lead at .381. The Ducks would take a three point lead at 18-15 as the momentum shifted back.

Oregon won hitting .336 with a team total 11 blocks. Lindsey Vander Weide had 18 kills, Ronika Stone finished with 16 kills.

The Oregon Ducks will face either Michigan or American in the Second Round on Friday at 4:30pm Pacific Time.
